T&G votes for NHS Agenda for Change

21.10.04

The T&G has this morning confirmed that its members in the National Health Service had given their backing to the new pay packages under Agenda for Change. Over seventy per cent of those who voted supported the new way forward in a turnout of around thirty per cent, which is considered a high level of return for such a ballot.

The union's lead officer for NHS workers, Tommy Douras, welcomed the result and said it was a very positive development. "Our members worked hard to make sure the final proposals they were voting on reflected their current aspirations," he said. "The negotiations were intense but the result is very clear."

Mr. Douras said he now looked forward to working with NHS managers at a local level to ensure the agreements were properly implemented but he promised to monitor the situation as well and make sure that any local concerns were dealt with as and when they arose.
