Job Profiles Agreed for Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists

The Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists (GHP) has agreed the publication of national profiles for five hospital pharmacist jobs.

The Guild is a professional organisation for pharmacists working in hospitals, both public and private, health authorities, health boards, primary care groups, local healthcare co-operatives and general practices.

The Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists, which is part of Amicus, represents 3,000 pharmacy workers.

The new agreement will provide a basic career structure for pharmacists in the NHS allowing them to see profiles against which they will be matched and whether they will be better or worse off financially.

Ron Pate, Chair GHP Terms and Conditions Committee says,

"This represents good progress, though the profiles only cover the meat in the sandwich of a career structure. Once a chief pharmacist profile and pre-reg. pharmacist profile are published we should have a generic career pathway for the majority of posts.

Significant further work is required with respect to the impact Agenda for Change will have on on-call and unsociable hours pharmacy service provision."
