Amicus view on new health professions consultation

Please see below a copy of a press release that was sent out on Friday 14 July 2006.

AMICUS HEALTH TO CONSULT MEMBERS ON PROPOSALS FOR THE REGULATION OF NON-MEDICAL HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONS.

Amicus, which has about 100,000 members in the health sector, will be consulting its membership on the proposals contained in The regulation of the non-medical healthcare professions which was launched today (Friday, 14 July).

The current eight regulatory bodies for non-medical health professionals will remain unchanged, except for a long-term plan to amalgamate The Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.

The Amicus Health Officer leading on regulation policy, Carol English said: ‘We broadly welcome the proposals in the Department of Health document and we will be consulting across all membership groups covered by the eight regulatory bodies.’

It is also proposed that the position, regarding the regulation of health professions, should be reviewed again in 2011.

The consultation process ends in November 2006.
