New NHS Redundancy Agreement
Following the consultation from July to September on the new proposed redundancy provisions, the NHS staff council executive agreed on 15th September the new arrangements which were due to be implemented from 1 October to be compliant with the age discrimination legislation taking effect on that date. The minister - Lord Warner - was then informed of this by the chair of the staff side and the chief executive of NHS Employers. On 29th September the NHS Employers informed the staff side that implementation of the new agreement would not proceed on 1 October largely due the objection by some health service employers to the costs of applying the new provisions. The matter is currently under review and the staff side has written today to Lord Warner to express its dismay over this development. A copy of that letter is attached. You will be advised of the response from the minister.
