Association of Scottish Chief Pharmacists
ASTCP has rebadged itself as ASCP now that Trusts have been abolished in Scotland. They have revamped their meetings at the same time and scrapped the joint acute and primary care meeting which was the one I attended. Since I have heard nothing from the organisation since mid-June, I must assume that GHP attendance at ASCP meetings is no longer desired.

Amicus Scottish NHS Regional Sector Committee Meeting 24.8.04
This was the inaugural meeting of the Scottish NHS Regional Sector Committee and, as such, was as concerned with decisions on how the Committee should work in future as in how to tackle the enormous Scottish Health agenda and deal with Agenda for Change.

Agenda For Change
The job matching exercise at Golden Jubilee has been completed and the results are with SPRIG. All pharmacy jobs matched apart from the Student Technician for which no profile exists. Apparently, it was successful due to the quality of the job profiles and great emphasis was put on the importance of building job families around posts requiring the same level of knowledge and responsibility.

However, an article (quoted below) in the Amicus Glasgow Health Service Branch Newsletter suggests that, overall, the pilot sites were not as thorough as it was intended they should be -

“A confidential report on the job matching and job evaluation process at the four Scottish pilot sites (W. Lothian, Golden Jubilee, Highland and the CSA) for Agenda for Change (AfC) reveals serious weaknesses in the way these tasks were carried out. In particular, the report highlights decisions being made without appropriate information being available from the job descriptions. Instead of then obtaining further information, the panels simply made assumptions and carried on with the process, generally undervaluing the jobs concerned. Perhaps the main problem was revealed by a comment from one site that “if this were not a pilot, the panel would seek further info”.”

SPRIG itself is to start meeting on a weekly basis to take the implementation forward.
