Personal development planning and review guidance - summary

Whilst local review guidance can be useful, the target audience must be considered very carefully. The principles of the review process under the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework (NHS KSF) should be simple to understand and use, for both staff and managers.

The NHS KSF Handbook contains useful information on pages 27 - 42 which clearly explain:

  • The stages of the review process
  • The responsibilities of the manager and member of staff

If individuals would benefit from working through some exercises to help them prepare for their KSF review meeting, they should ask their manager, training or HR department for a copy of ‘Me and My PDR’, produced by the former NHSu and available to organisations by telephoning 08000 150 850.
