NHS Redundancy Review

A sub group of the NHS Staff Council was established earlier this year to review the provisions of section 16 in the AfC handbook which cover the redundancy payments scheme in the NHS. The review was prompted by the forthcoming age discrimination legislation which will be implemented on 1st October. The current scheme is permeated with age based trigger points which would be challenged under the new legislation as age discriminatory. The NHS website address below gives the new proposed agreement on redundancy which the employers and unions believe will be compliant with the age discrimination legislation. Responses to the proposals can be made by 11th September on line at the address given on page 15 of the document.
