Scotland West District Member's Report from Guild Council Meeting 21.9.2000

Unfortunately, I was unable to attend either this meeting or the 'Stocktake Day' as I was on holiday. Consequently, this report has been compiled from the papers supplied for the meeting and from notes passed to me by Jim Bannerman, District Member for Scotland East.

GHP 'Stocktake' Day 20.9.00
On the 20th September, there was a 'Stocktake Day' for Guild Council to

  • Refresh overall GHP strategy
  • Consider key issues facing the profession
  • Identify policy gaps for future statements
  • Hear from Roger Kline, National Officer MSF, on Agenda for Change
  • Consider role of GHP in new union

A report of this day is to be produced by the President, Helen Remington, shortly.

GHP District Boundaries
A proposal to amend the current allocations of Guild Groups to Districts is to be considered. Group Secretaries have been issued with the proposals, but no changes to the Scottish Districts are involved. The changes mainly affect the Groups all down the East coast of England.

South West and Wessex District
The District Member for this District, Paul Evans, has resigned from Council due to a new job and increased workload. Paul joined Council in 1993, the same year I did. He spent several years a Editor of Guild News and his input into Council will be missed. I will also miss him as a friend and colleague with a sense of humour similar to my own.

Modernisation Forum
Representation at the above group was discussed at my request. Council decided that the most appropriate person to attend was the GHP Secretary for Scotland. As I hold that office, I will continue to attend the meetings. If I am unable to attend a particular meeting, either Jim Bannerman or Don Page, my Council colleagues, will hopefully be able to attend. A letter is to be sent by the Section General Secretary, Gerry Looker, to Bill Scott, the Chief Pharmacist at Scottish Executive Health Department conveying that decision.

Vice Chair of Glasgow & West of Scotland Group
This post is still vacant. It is important that we are able to fill this post, and I would ask that if you are at all interested, you contact myself or any member of the Group Committee for details of what it entails.

Day Conference and Group Delegates Meeting, Dec 1/2 Birmingham
Information has already been sent out to all reps via email about these two events. I would be grateful if you would circulate the attached invitation, programme and registration form for the Day Conference within your department.
Please note that if attendees also wish to be delegates to the Group Delegates Meeting, they should contact either myself or Group secretary Rhona Dykes before 3rd November. The advantage of being a delegate is that MSF will pay travelling expenses. Please encourage colleagues to attend. If anyone would like further details about either meeting, please call me.
