Scotland West District Member's Report from Guild Council Meeting 5.4.2001

Annual General Meeting and Elections to Council
There was considerable discussion on the way forward with these matters. The Annual General Meeting has been rescheduled for 7-9pm 13th June 2001. It will take place after the Group Secretaries Meeting 1-6pm.

A corrected version of the Annual Report, containing those reports omitted from the circulated version, will be available on the www.ghp.org.uk website.

The election process, including a request for nominations for election, is to be repeated. If you wished to stand for Council as either District or National Member, please contact me or Rhona Dykes for information.

Presidents Report
The President reported on several meetings she had attended including one with Alan Milburn and several leading MSF NHS officers. There was significant discussion on the Public Private Partnership arrangement. It is hoped that Mr Milburn is now more aware that there is a professional aspect of MSF as well as the terms and conditions side.

It was reported that the recent document on a human resource strategy for NHS clinical scientist is also meant to include pharmacists.

Mr Milburn was not prepared to move on announcing those groups to be included in the new pay review body under Agenda for Change as he feels it is a useful bargaining counter. The position will be acceptance of all of the strategy or none.

GHP and MSF
It was noted that Council has major concerns over -

It was also noted that National Officer Bill Walsh has asked GHP to look at their expenditure with a view to reducing it. This does not seem to equate with the promises of increased resources for the NHS in the new union.

It has been decided that an options appraisal will therefore be carried out by Council.
