GHP are involved in the patient safety agenda of the NPSA and are currently working with them on the safe use of intravenous medicines.

The Department of Health has asked the GHP to support their campaign to encourage secondary care health professionals to be vaccinated against influenza. GHP agreed to support the campaign on the condition that sufficient supplies of the vaccine will be available.

Workforce Model for Pharmacy
Sue Ambler gave a presentation to Council on the building and running of the above model. It was created in the context of long term shortage vs change in demand for pharmacists; increasing numbers of Schools of Pharmacy and expanding technician and assistant roles and skill mix issues. Several scenarios were shown and the only one where supply outstripped demand was where supply was very high and demand growth very low. However, it was pointed out that these were only scenarios.

GHP Council reorganisation
A significant part of the meeting was devoted to talking through the paper to be sent to members detailing the proposed restructuring. It is important that members are clear on the election process that will take place early next year. This process will be slightly different from subsequent years' elections as it will encompass the changeover.

There was then discussion on how the Practice and Education & Development Committees would support this and when they should meet.

It was noted that it had been confirmed that the www.ghp.org.uk site would continue for the foreseeable future and some proposals for upgrading it had been received from Masmedia.

The final paper should come out to members within the next couple of months to ask if they support the GHP Council proposals. N.B. If you do not get these papers please contact me immediately and I will investigate. I will send out details on the ghpscot-announce email group as soon as I have the dates of when the papers are to be issued and returned.

Further information can be obtained from my report of the Group Secretaries meeting.
